The Miracle of Continuity |
|
From Gita…
The Miracle of Continuity — and 2009. As we enter 2009, the idea of “continuity” is a very appropriate subject to think about; it fits my core belief system about life. I think of life as the art and science of the possible. I try always to take a long view of life and whatever is happening in the world around me. I know deep inside of me that humanity has the intrinsic urge to survive and to grow and eventually we come to our senses and start to make decisions about our life that will ensure our health and wellbeing. In other words, the crises of 2008, while continuing, can be seen as the necessary impetus to make those new decisions that will harvest a better future for us individually and collectively.
I also know that this does not often happen in one lifetime. Humanity takes tens of years, or hundreds of years to make any real change. So, I also take the longer view of life by seeing it from the perspective of many lifetimes. This gives me the advantage of having patience and understanding when I have to look at the many ugly things that we do and the many atrocities that humans commit against each other and the world around them.
